Dialogue - Receiving guests
Jan: Good evening madam. Good evening sir. Do you have a reservation?
Mr Kerrigan: Yes, we do.
Jan: Could I have the name, please?
Mr Kerrigan: Mr and Mrs Kerrigan.
Jan: One moment, yes, Mr and Mrs Kerrigan - table for two. Shall I take your coats?
Mr Kerrigan: Yes, please. Can I leave my hat, too?
Jan: Certainly. Would you prefer to sit indoors or outdoors?
Mrs Kerrigan: I think we'd prefer indoors. What about the small table near the piano?
Jan: I'm very sorry madam. I'm afraid that table is not available. But the round one near the window is free.
Mr Kerrigan: Perfect. That's fine.
Jan: Follow me, please. I'll show you to your table.
Mr Kerrigan: Thank you.
Jan: Here's the menu.

How to lay the table
Watch these two videos on how to lay the table.
The first one is subtitled so you can listen and repeat to learn the correct pronunciation (American English).
The second is not subtitled. Remember that you don't need to understand ALL the words. Pay attention to the prepositions and also the pronunciation (British English).
Write down on your notebook all the items that they use (cutlery, crockery = dishware, glassware and others).

http://dictionary.cambridge.org/
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/
http://www.wordreference.com/
I have had several similar jobs serving customers in different types of restaurant. My work has been mainly fast paced and demanding and I provide excellent service to my customers at all times. I have a friendly but efficient manner and have developed solid working relationships in all of the staff teams in which I have been placed.
I believe that my knowledge of restaurant operations and hospitality expertise make me a highly suitable candidate for the role. In addition, I am able to handle cash and process card payments efficiently and perform inventory checks.
I enclose my CV for your consideration. I would be keen to tell you more about my suitability for the role at interview and would be pleased to meet with you. I can be contacted on (phone number) or (e-mail address) and I hope that you will take my application forward.
(Source: http://icover.org.uk/waitress-cover-letter-example/)
